Man seen rummaging through mailboxes

SAXONBURG TWP — Police advised county residents on Saturday, Dec. 10, not to leave mail in their mailboxes.

A post on Penn Township Police Department’s Facebook page warns of reports that a white male in his 30s or 40s has been seen rummaging through mailboxes at around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, near Dinnerbell and Victory Roads in Saxonburg

Saxonburg Police Department received the initial report and passed it on to other departments to share, said Penn Township Sgt. Cheryl Cranmer.

“We just want to make people aware that this time of year, they’re receiving Christmas cards, and there’s often money, checks, gift cards in those Christmas cards,” Cranmer said. “And we want make sure that they’re not leaving mail sit in mailboxes, just as crime prevention.”

Residents are to contact Saxonburg Police Department at 724-352-6255 if they observe any unusual activity.
