Danny Markel a positive role model
Among all the confusion of the election and all the depressing plots and sludge being thrown at all candidates, I could hardly read the papers or watch TV. Then, out of the blue, a light was turned on by two young men.
About three weeks ago at 1:30 a.m. Sunday morning, I couldn’t sleep, and I turned the TV on to channel 4. What a great story of a young man who didn’t have a lot of support from his Dad, but knew in his mind he could play basketball and who wanted to be the greatest basketball player ever. He and his Mom didn’t have it easy, but they created a good life through courage and determination. The young man became a father at 19 and was determined to be a good “dad.” His name is Jayson Tatum, who plays for the Boston Celtics. He made it, and, in my opinion, is a respectable player, man and dad. A great, positive young man!
Then you published an article about Danny Markel. What a wonderful, positive young man. He is a selfless person, and even though he is in a wheelchair, it’s not stopping him from creating a better life for people who are handicapped. His mind is working in a way to help others. Wow, there are so many people who would have given up! Not him, and because of him, many others’ lives will be better.
Our community should be proud of him and support him in this endeavor. He would like to complete a place where handicapped people can fish at the Petroleum Valley Youth Center. I think if we all made a small donation it can be achieved. God bless you, Dan, you are the most positive person I can think of.
In these days of sadness, we can learn a great lesson from those who aren’t self-centered and use the skills they have to not only create a better world for them but everyone around them. Thank you young man who has made my day a little brighter.
