Domencic, Cotton shine for Behrend
ERIE — Seneca Valley graduate Aiden Domencic placed fourth in the 3,000 meters for Penn State Behrend at the Houghton December Classic over the weekend. His time was 9 minutes, 36.76 seconds.
Knoch graduate Alex Cotton paced sixth in the men’s shot put for Behrend with a throw of 45 feet, five inches.
SR resident Brown caps big week
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown drove Wild Wild Western to a dead-heat win during harness racing action Friday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Wild West Western won a $19,300 Open Handicap Pace.
Brown also guided Chief Mate to victory in a $10,500 Conditioned Pace. Brown picked up six wins during the week.
Knoch grad Boyer aids Behrend win
OBERLIN, Ohio — Knoch graduate Madilyn Boyer scored 22 points Saturday in helping the Penn State Behrend women’s basketball team to an 86-75 victory at Oberlin.
Behrend improved to 5-2 on the season.
Butler grad Simms wins opening race
Butler graduate Liz Simms, competing for Davidson University at the JDL Early Bird Track and Field Invitational, won her season-opening 600-meter race.
Simms completed the event in 1 minute, 39.49 seconds, less than two seconds in front of Davidson teammate Maliyah Paynter.
Pitt football takes Sun Bowl bid
PITTSBURGH — The University of Pittsburgh (8-4) has accepted a bid to play No. 18 UCLA (9-3) in the Tony the Tiger Sun Bowl at 2 p.m. Dec. 30 in El Paso, Texas.
The game marks the 15th all-time meeting between Pitt and UCLA, but the first since 1972. This is the sixth bowl appearance in Pat Narduzzi’s eight years as Panthers head coach.
