Predictions of voter turnout for the 1970 midterm General Election in Butler County ranged from 60% to 75% of the 52,000 registered voters in the county.

The Nov. 4, 1970, edition of the Butler Eagle reported that a midday check on poll stats showed turnout numbers to be on track to be within those figures on that rainy Tuesday.

The Associated Press reported that the voter turnout across Pennsylvania counties was as varied as the weather that day. Early voting statistics at the time also varied from city to city.

The unpleasant weather was not enough to deter Albert Neigh, 91, of Butler, from voting at his polling place at Summit Esso Station on Route 422. The 91-year-old had been voting since 1899, and never missed an election.
