Major accident sites need signage, radar

This is in reference to two Butler Eagle news articles, on Aug. 9 and Oct. 25, 2022.

The first detailed Penn Township Commissioners discussing the many fatal and serious accidents at the intersection of Airport Road and Route 8 South. The second discussed another intersection under scrutiny by officials in Slippery Rock Township that has been the scene of several deadly accidents over the past decade — a stretch of Route 8 that intersects with Branchton Road.

The Butler Township Commissioners should discuss the same with the high traffic areas at many dangerous intersections in Butler Township. Serious accidents involving cars, trucks, vans, SUVs, tractor trailers and motorcycles have resulted in serious injuries causing fatalities and major property damage.

They require speed enforcement and better signage. I’m asking the state police to use radar in high traffic areas where major accidents happen regularly, and have been happening for many decades in Butler Township:

– Route 8 South at McCalmont Road

– The intersections at the Greater Butler Mart

– Route 8 South at Butler Tires for Less

– Hansen Ave. at Whitestown Road

– Hansen Ave. at Fairground Road

– Hansen Ave. at New Castle Road

– Route 68 West at Duffy Road

– Route 68 West at Eberhart Road

– Route 68 West at Meridian Road

– Route 68 West at Benbrook Road

– Greenwood Drive at 422 West

– Lions Road at Benbrook Road

– Delwood Road at East Jefferson St.

– Delwood Road at Route 8 North

– Route 8 North at Sheetz

– Route 8 North Bon Aire Area
