Saxonburg had more than 150 children participate in its Halloween parade and costume contest on Oct. 31, 2002, which was hosted by the Saxonburg Volunteer Fire Company and ladies auxiliary.
Among those participants were the Rearick quadruplets, Haley, Lucas, Colton and Joshua, who won the family costume contest dressed as the Three Little Pigs and the Big Bad Wolf at just 3-and-a-half years old.
The borough did not have trick-or-treating in 2002, so the parade and contest were Saxonburg’s way of giving children a fun time.
Saxonburg’s library staff also entertained, with a ghostly story time taking place that night and hosting a pumpkin walk in the garden.
“We’ve got 30 pumpkins on display,“ said librarian Steve Twentier. ”We hope to make the story telling and the pumpkin walk annual events.“
