Fred Mishler Jr.
Fred Mishler Jr., 99, of Slippery Rock, passed away on Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, at Newhaven Court at Clearview in Butler.
He was born on April 15, 1923, in Johnstown, and was the son of the late Fred Mishler Sr. and Grace (Waugoman) Mishler.
Fred began his newspaper career with the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat, moving later to the Lancaster New Era, and then to The Pittsburgh Press as copy editor and headline writer. He later became news editor of The Pittsburgh Press, a position he held until his retirement in 1985.
In 1949, he married Dr. Elenor Jane Fleming of Indiana, Pa. She practiced medicine under the professional name of Dr. E. Jane Fleming. She died in 2008.
Fred was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, having served for almost three years in the China-Burma-India theater.
He and his wife loved to play golf, enjoyed traveling in their motor home and had a deep love for animals.
They were members of the Slippery Rock United Methodist Church.
Surviving are two adult children, David A. Mishler and his wife, Vonda, of Slippery Rock, and Patricia Mishler Wolfe and her husband, Daniel, of Pearland, Texas.
Also surviving are several nieces, nephews and cousins.
MISHLER — Funeral arrangements for Fred Mishler Jr., who died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2022, are being handled by the YOUNG FUNERAL HOME in Butler.
There will be a private graveside service at Slippery Rock Cemetery at a later date.
