Identity theft charges withdrawn in case against Harrisburg man
EVANS CITY — Charges against a Harrisburg man charged with stealing someone's identity last year were withdrawn during a preliminary hearing Tuesday.
In September 2021, Adams Township Police filed charges against Franyerson Pujols Reynoso, 20, including felony identity theft, misdemeanors possessing counterfeit material and possessing an offensive weapon and two traffic citations related to a string of events in July 2021.
Pujols Reynoso appeared before District Judge Amy Marcinkiewicz on Tuesday, accompanied by an interpreter.
Rebecca Black, defense attorney, said Pujols Reynoso would plead guilty to a summary charge of driving unaccompanied with a learner’s permit.
Officer Ed Lenz of the Adams Township department and Black asked Marcinkiewicz to withdraw all other charges and add a misdemeanor of disorderly conduct in their place.
“He’s never been in trouble, his family is very supportive,” Black said. “He understands the misdemeanor will stay on the record.”
According to charging documents, Pujols Reynoso spent 11 days in Butler County Prison in August of this year after being unable to post the $100,000 bond.
Lenz asked Marcinkiewicz to put the time served toward Pujols Reynoso’s payment of court costs.
“I think that time is a better lesson than anything else,” he said.
According to charging documents, police pulled over a vehicle driven by Pujols Reynoso in July 2021, who said he and the youth passenger were looking for a package they had mailed with the wrong ZIP code.
According to police, 22 bags of marijuana were found in the vehicle, which were claimed by a youth passenger.
During the encounter, police asked Pujols Reynoso if he had anything illegal in his possession, at which time he pulled out a switchblade knife and set it on the vehicle. Police said they found no other illegal items on Pujols Reynoso.
When the package was located it was found to contain two fraudulent debit cards.
