Apple butter in season 40 years ago

Men of the North Butler United Presbyterian Church stirred the apple butter pot all day 40 years ago.
The Oct. 5, 1980 Butler Eagle reported that the men stirred for about 10 hours to ensure the butter was properly mixed. The making of the apple butter was itself an annual event for the church and its members.
The group began cooking the sauce at 7 a.m., and finished at 5 p.m. They placed a silver dollar in each kettle to keep the mixture from sticking.
