A-C Valley volleyball extends streak

A-C Valley’s volleyball team has been red-hot since dropping its first two matches of the season.

The Falcons earned their sixth straight victory Monday with a sweep of Brookville.

Jenna Stefanacci dished out 19 assists and Lexi Ruckdeschel tallied 12 kills and 10 digs.

Bella Ielase chipped in seven kills and 16 digs, Mackenzie Parks six kills and Ava Snyder 10 service points for the Falcons (6-2).

A-C Valley won the match by scores of 25-13, 25-21 and 25-16.

Boys Soccer

Cole Kovacik and Hunter Berry scored goals as Slippery Rock defeated Greenville, 2-1.

The Rockets improved to 7-3 overall, 3-0 in region play, and host Hickory on Wednesday.

Boys Golf

Knoch’s Mitch Davies carded an 80 to tie for 14th place in the first round of the WPIAL Class 2A championship, held at Hannastown Golf Club. The effort advances him to the second and final round, scheduled Oct. 4 at Oakmont Country Club.

Also moving on by placing in the top 36 were Freeport’s Nate Covey (81) and Knoch’s Gasparo Porco (85).

Tam O’Shanter Invitational — Slippery Rock senior Jacob Wolak won this 41st annual event by shooting a 1-over-par 73. The Rockets placed sixth out of 26 teams.

Butler’s Hunter Swidzinski carded a 74 to finish second overall. The Golden Tornado’s Wyatt Kos shot a 79 to place fourth. Butler’s team finished second with a 325, two strokes behind champion Moon.

Girls Golf

Seneca Valley junior Lihini Ranaweera came in with a 77 to finish second in the first round of the WPIAL Class 3A championship, held at Youghiogheny Country Club. She moves on to the second and final round, scheduled Oct. 4 at Valleybrook Country Club.

Joining her in the championship will be SV’s Madison Sharek (86) and Butler’s Paige Ponteous (98).

In Class 2A, Freeport’s Lillie Snow continued her individual season with an 87, tying her for fourth place.

Girls Tennis

Individual victories by Anna Bowser and Grace Roda and doubles triumphs by the pairings of Cece Crowley and Reece Hanna and Blythe McClure and Brooke Franklin helped Mars power past North Hills, 4-1, on Senior Day.

The Indians’ only win came against Carla Genevro, the Planets’ second singles player. That match went to three sets.

Girls Soccer

Goals by Leah Weiland and Cecelia Wolford helped lift Butler to a 2-1 victory over Pine-Richland.

Ella Rekich had a pair of assists, while Delaney Yaracs made five saves in goal for the Golden Tornado (5-4, 4-3).

Knoch 4, Ambridge 1 — Izabela Oskin scored two goals for the Knights in this Saturday game. Macrina Robb and Brooke Galcik had a goal and assist. Paige Rodgers had one save in goal for Knoch.

Butler 2, Pine-Richland 1 — The Golden Tornado won this sectional matchup thanks in part to goals by Leah Weiland and Cecelia Wolford. Ella Rekich had a pair of assists, while Delaney Yaracs made five saves in goal.

Butler travels to Seneca Valley on Wednesday.
