Symphony opener features Broadway stars
Two stars of the Great White Way will grace the Butler Intermediate High School stage alongside the Butler County Symphony Orchestra in its first season show, “Bravo Broadway!”
The concert on Saturday, Oct. 1, at Butler Intermediate High School will feature familiar Broadway classics and offer an experience like being in New York City with Scarlett Strallen and Hugh Panaro’s vocal talent.
According to Benjamin Cacioppo, administrative assistant for the symphony association, the guest artists will perform pieces they’re well known for.
“(Panaro) is best known for performing as the Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, including the 25th anniversary performance,” he said. “He’s currently the titular role of ‘Sweeney Todd.’”
He added that Strallen has performed all over the world with symphonies and was requested by the late Queen Elizabeth II of England to perform on a number of occasions.
“She’s known for the West End ‘Singin’ in the Rain’ and for playing Mary Poppins,” he said.
Cacioppo said the symphony’s conductor was able to secure the vocalist for the concert.
“Matthew Kraemer is very-well connected. He knows who he wants to have onstage and what would attract the best audience,” he said. “Our orchestra is strong enough to support big talent. This is just one way to get us out into the world.”
He added that “Bravo Broadway” tickets are a great way to experience a big city concert for a low price.
“A night at the symphony means experiencing truly high-quality musicianship at the price of dinner for two. We provide an experience (that would be) costly in the city,” he said.
