Carol Namendorf

Namendorf

Carol E. (Whitmire) Namendorf, 79, of Butler, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2022, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

She was born Sept. 26, 1942, in Butler, and was the daughter of the late Robert Lester and Alletta E. “Betty” (James) Whitmire.

Ms. Namendorf received a Bachelor of Sacred Music degree from Northeastern Bible College in Essex Fells, N.J., where she also worked as an academic secretary for four years.

Carol enjoyed most kinds of music, and she played and taught both accordion and piano. Music was her passion. For over 20 years, she sang in the worship choir and served the Lord in various capacities at St. Paul’s Presbyterian Church in Laurel Springs, N.J.

Carol worked tirelessly with the Arthritis Foundation New Jersey Chapter for 28 years, serving as volunteer coordinator, support group leader, speakers bureau coordinator, fundraising assistant and many other titles. The volunteers affectionately called her “Elf Carol” for her work on the letters from the Santa Project. The National Arthritis Foundation in Atlanta, Ga., recognized Carol with several awards and accolades for all of her support and work over the past 35 years.

She collected family recipes and compiled a “Family Favorites Cookbook” for her family members. Carol also compiled and printed cookbooks for fundraising purposes for nonprofits and churches, the most recent being to benefit the food pantry at Mount Chestnut Presbyterian Church in Butler, where she was a member.

Carol is survived by her three sisters, Pat Whitmire, Mary Ann (Russ Jr.) Yockey and Lois J. (John) Swigart, all of Butler; three brothers, David (Denise) Whitmire of Karns City, Richard (Gloria) Whitmire of Meadville and George “Harley” (Marie) Whitmire of Carney, Mich.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

A heart-felt thank you is extended to her sister, Pat, who lovingly and unselfishly cared for Carol over the past nine years. Thank you Pat!
