Ronald Gray
Ronald G. Gray, 91, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, while under the care of Good Samaritan Hospice in Wexford.
Born Sept. 15, 1930, in Harmony, he was the son of the late Kenneth C. Gray and Mildred E. McPherson Gray.
A veteran of the Korean War, Ronald proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1949 to 1953, and was a cook on the USS Chanticleer.
He worked at Armco Steel for 36 years until his retirement from pollution control in 1993. He was a hardworking man who was recognized for not missing a day of work.
Ronald was a faithful member of Connoquenessing United Methodist Church.
He was an avid reader and loved history. He enjoyed taking his kids and grandkids around Gettysburg. Ronald was known for stopping on the side of major highways to read historical markers, even if they were in the middle of a cornfield. He loved to travel and visited all 50 states. He enjoyed camping and fishing with his family at Pymatuning State Park, and he spent countless hours not fishing himself but helping his grandchildren with worms, snags and dropped fishing rods.
Ronald loved spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, proud father and adored grandfather and great-grandfather. He loved spoiling his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He leaves behind to treasure his memory his beloved wife of 67 years, Donna Eppinger Gray, whom he married May 13, 1955; his three children, Kevin (Terre) Gray of Butler, Cheryl (David) Sanderson of Renfrew and Terri (Bradley) Graham of Greencastle, Pa.; his six grandchildren, Jordan (Kati) Gray of Butler, Valerie (Matthew) Harbison of Connoquenessing, Lauren (Gerald) Hackett of Virginia, Emily Graham of Greencastle, Pa., Joshua Sanderson of Renfrew and Noah Graham of Greencastle, Pa.; his seven great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sandra Ripa of Biloxi, Miss.
In addition to his parents, Ronald was preceded in death by his infant son; his brother, Warren “Pete” Gray; and his stepmother, Velma “Gay” Graffius Nicholas-Gray.
GRAY — A gathering of family and friends for Ronald G. Gray, who died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2022, will be held from 2 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3 p.m. Saturday at BOYLAN FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTER OF CONNOQUENESSING TOWNSHIP, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew, with Pastor Bonnie Rupp officiating.
Ronald will be laid to rest at Butler County Memorial Park.
