Democratic committee hosting annual fundraiser

The Butler County Democratic Committee will host its annual fall fundraising dinner Sept. 15 at Butler Country Club.

Democrats and supporters who live in Butler County or surrounding areas are invited to attend. Local and state Democratic candidates in the November general election that are expected to appear include Lt. Gov. John Fetterman, a candidate for U.S. Senate; Austin Davis, who is running for lieutenant governor; Dan Pastore, a candidate to represent the 16th District in the U.S. House of Representatives; and Rob Vigue, a candidate for the 12th District in the U.S. House.

Speaking will be Sharif Street, chair of the Pennsylvania Democratic Party. The theme of this year’s dinner is “Vote Blue in ‘22!” The event will include a buffet dinner, raffles, and prizes.

The program includes a celebration of the Democratic Party’s accomplishments during the previous year.

“President Biden and the Democrats in the Congress have achieved great things over the past year, including the infrastructure bill, gun reform, deficit reduction, and the recent inflation reduction act. On the state level, we passed a budget with the largest annual increase in education and increased Medicaid coverage for new mothers, and passed a bill that allows (state) residents to get state grants for home repairs. As a party, we don’t tout our successes enough, and we want to remind everybody of all the good things we’ve done,” said Peggy Tonini, event chairwoman.

The event is also a call to action, she said.

“This dinner is an opportunity for county Democrats to mingle with each other, meet the candidates, and support the party in the upcoming election,” said Catherine Lalonde, Butler County Democratic Committee chairwoman.

Dinner tickets cost $50 per person before Sept. 7 and $60 after Sept. 7, and can be purchased at butlerpadems.org or by calling 724- 256-5311.
