How to make your canine companion feel welcome

As pet lovers, owners spend every day appreciating their dogs. Many people have taken the summertime to add a dog to their home and have started to form the human-canine bond.

There are plenty of ways to spend time with your dog to celebrate this bond. The American Kennel Club shares the following ways that you can spend some quality time with your pooch.

Get outside. Spending some time outdoors is a great way to celebrate your canine companion! Whether it’s a forest, park or urban trail, explore hikes in your area to do with your pup. It’s always good to double check with your dog’s veterinarian to make sure they are in good health. When hiking, don’t forget to bring a collapsible dog dish, water and snacks for your adventure.

Show your dog some love. What better way to celebrate your newfound companion than to spend some quality time together? It’s important to note that dogs, like humans, require love and attention to thrive. Remember to make your dog feel at home!

Learn a new sport with your dog. Not only are dog sports great exercise, they are also a great way to deeply bond with your dog. There are plenty of opportunities to get involved, with sports for all dogs to enjoy. Whether you decide to compete, or just train for fun, you can take pride in reaching your goals together.

Practice responsible dog ownership. Owning a dog is a huge commitment, and it’s important to take the time to reflect on the joy and responsibility of owning a dog and think about the ways in which you practice responsible dog ownership and care for your dog’s well-being.
