Two people were transported to the hospital Thursday for evaluation following a two-vehicle crash involving a pickup truck and a tri-axle truck on Route 422 near its intersection with Bonniebrook Road.

Butler County 911 issued the dispatch at 11:02 a.m.

According to Lick Hill Fire Chief Bryan Powell, when his crew arrived, they found the pickup truck with heavy front-end damage, and a 50-foot trail of hydraulic fluid that led to the tri-axle truck.

Powell said both injured persons came from the pickup truck, and they were quickly loaded into ambulances and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital. The driver of the tri-axle truck was still at the scene while crews worked to clear the trucks and debris.

Fire crews restricted traffic around the scene, which encompassed most of Route 422’s westbound lanes.

Powell said traffic had to continue being restricted until they could soak up all the hydraulic fluid with sand and other materials. He said the fluid presented further safety risks if left unattended due to its slick nature.

Crews cleared the scene around 1:45 p.m.

In addition to Lick Hill, East Butler Fire and EMS departments also assisted at the scene.
