Soroptimist International of Butler County is accepting applications for its Live Your Dream Award.

The program is an education award for women, who provide the primary financial support for their families, to improve their education, skills and employment prospects.

The Butler County club honors its Live Your Dream recipients with awards of $1,000 to $1,500. They are honored in April at the group's major fundraising event. This year's event is scheduled April 1 at the Butler Country Club.

Among qualifications, the woman must have significant financial needs and be enrolled in a vocational/skills or an undergraduate degree program. She must provide the primary financial support for herself and her dependents, who could be children, spouse, partner, siblings and/or parents.

Participants are selected on their drive to continue their education while faced with many obstacles often including poverty, unexpected pregnancies and drug or alcohol addiction. More than half of the Live Your Dream Award recipients worldwide are survivors of domestic violence, trafficking or sexual assault.

Winners at the club level may advanced by the District IV to North Atlantic Region level and then the international level. The first-place region recipients then become candidates for one of three $10,000 finalist awards. Every year, Soroptimist distributes more than $2.8 million in education awards to about 1,700 women all over the world. The awards can be used to offset any costs associated with their efforts to attain higher education, such as books, child care, tuition and transportation.
