Mary Ann Starr

Starr

Mary Ann Blakeley Starr, 84, of Valencia, passed away peacefully on Aug. 8, 2022, surrounded by family.

Born in Pittsburgh on Sept. 30, 1937, she was the daughter of the late Arthur and Ruth Fisher Blakeley.

Mary Ann graduated from Langley High School with the Class of 1955 and later worked in the U.S. Steel building. It was through a mutual acquaintance that Mary Ann was introduced to Bill on a blind date, which led to a 60-year marriage.

Mary Ann was a 62-year member of Glade Run Presbyterian Church, having served as a longtime deacon; she was a member of the choir and the Pastor-Nominating Committee and was a consummate volunteer for endless activities. She served on the board of directors for South Butler Community Meals on Wheels for more than 20 years, and also volunteered as a cook, meal planner and shopper. Mary Ann belonged to the Women’s Club of South Butler County and served on the board of Mars Public Library.

She was her daughters’ biggest supporter, traveling to every athletic event, no matter the distance; she supported all activities in which her children were involved.

Mary Ann loved traveling with her husband and friends. She also loved spending time in Bonita Springs, Fla., where she spent decades of winters and summer trips with her grandsons.

Mary Ann loved her card club friends and belonged to different clubs that gave her many great memories. She also was an avid Steelers and Penn State football fan, attending games and hosting many parties with fantastic spreads of food.

Her greatest joy came from being a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and sister. She loved her family and enjoyed making everyone feel special — buying that “special something” or making a favorite meal. Her heart was happy when surrounded by family. She will be remembered for her servant’s heart, and her love and wit.

She was the beloved wife of the late William P. Starr; loving mother of Susan Starr, Sandie Starr Everhart (the late Nathan) and Sallie Starr Paracca (Peter); sister of Thomas Blakeley (Lisa) and the late Robert Blakeley (Barbara); dear grandmother of Jack Starr Paracca, Will Starr Paracca, Claire Everhart (Sharif), Rebecca Everhart Eades (John David), and Alexandra Everhart Gearing (Dillon); and great-grandmother of Josiah and Jonathan Eades. She also is survived by many nieces and nephews.

A special thank you to the wonderful staff of St. Barnabas Hospice Care, along with caregivers from Peace at Home Agency. Their care and commitment allowed Mary Ann to live peacefully in the comfort of her home.
