A call for transparency
After reading a couple articles concerning the potential sale of water and sewage authorities in Adams Township, I feel it’s imperative I comment on this subject.
Pennsylvania American and Aqua Pennsylvania have been aggressively buying municipal systems throughout Pennsylvania. The process is simple. The companies offer huge sums of money, which makes it hard to say no. Lots can be done with large amounts of money.
However, this is followed by big rate increases. It’s guaranteed income with mandatory tap ordinances. Little can be done once the sale is complete.
I will quote from an article I have: “In 2016, Act 12, sponsored by former state Rep. Robert Godshall, passed the Pa. House and Senate and was signed by Governor Wolf. The act allows private companies to buy public utilities at higher costs to residents. State Rep. Mike Turzai helped ease this on through.”
I would guess that the supers at Adams already know what the score is. Why would anyone want to give the impression of impropriety? The citizens are now, if not before, suspicious of their elected officials.
When will this end? Elected officials sometimes forget what they are elected to do. It’s not about what they can get for themselves.
Transparency, nothing to hide, is the best way.
