Uniforms, books for sale as Butler Catholic fundraiser
Butler Catholic School students looking for uniforms for the upcoming school year can find them in all shapes and sizes this Saturday. Students looking to get rid of their used uniforms will also find an outlet at the school that day.
The school will host a used uniform and book sale Saturday as a fundraiser for field trips and assemblies for this upcoming year.
Samantha Beal, outreach coordinator for Butler Catholic School, said the summer sale is a popular yearly event, because it gives the school’s families a way to support one another.
“It started as a way to give families affordable uniform options; this kind of helps the families moving out, and the families moving in gets them uniforms,” Beal said. “Families can either drop off their donations, and we will be responsible for selling them and proceeds can go back.”
The sale takes place from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. in the school’s gymnasium. Beal said the used uniforms and books are all marked down from buying them off the store shelves.
While the supplies will be cheaper options for the school’s families, the proceeds generated from sales will be used to fund activities at the school, which Beal said will be a focus in the upcoming school year.
“This is the first year they have specifically made a point to say the money goes toward field trips and things,” Beal said. “This year we are coming out of COVID-19; we wanted to get the ball rolling on giving kids the outside-of-school experiences.”
People can still donate used clothing items or books for the sale from 8:30 a.m. until 2:30 p.m. before Friday at the school at 515 E. Locust St. in Butler. They can also call 724-285-4276 to request a table to sell uniforms, Beal said.
Beal also said she thinks the school community has been even more open to fundraisers over the past year, because of the halt in activity caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.
“We are just trying to cover the whole array of needs and what families will be interested in helping with,” Beal said. “Families here are super interested in building community; you don't have to look far to find help.”
