Butler Y swimmer wins national title
GREENSBORO, N.C. — Butler YMCA youth swimmer Giona Lavorini recently won the women’s 200-yard breaststroke championship at the YMCA Long Course Swimming Nationals.
She swam the event in 2 minutes, 40.31 seconds, edging out Grace Hunt of the Greater Spartanburg YMCA. Lavorini, 15, won the event by 0.21 seconds.
Lavorini is also a member of the Knoch High School swim team.
Brown, Schoeffel team for victory
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown drove 12-1 long-shot Pancho Power, trained by Steve Schoeffel of Evans City, to victory during harness racing action recently at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The 5-year-old mare won a $5,800 Conditioned Claiming Pace.
Brown also scored a victory with Maching Me Zilly, an 8-year-old mare, in a $9,000 Claiming Handicap Pace.
Special show set Friday at Lernerville
BUFFALO TWP — Lernerville Speedway will host the BOSS Sprint Car Series, Allegheny Sprint Tour and the RUSH Late Models, Modifieds and Sprints Friday night.
The Fab4 program gets a night off as the third annual RUSH Summer Showcase takes over the Sarver oval. Hot laps begin at 6:45 p.m., racing at 7:30 p.m.
