2 charged in credit card theft in Cranberry Twp
Two Californians are accused of taking a Cranberry Township woman’s wallet and purchasing $4,500 worth of gift cards with her credit cards, according to charges filed Friday.
Yury K. Gomez Martinez, 19, and Brayan S. Sanz Saavedra, 21, both of Rancho Cucamonga, Calif., each were charged with 24 felonies of theft including receiving stolen property and conspiracy.
Gomez Martinez and Sanz Saavedra are being held in Butler County Prison in lieu of $75,000 bonds.
According to Cranberry Township police, a woman reported Tuesday that her wallet had been stolen from her purse by two individuals in TJ Maxx.
“Credit cards had been used at Target and Best Buy in Cranberry Township to purchase gift cards totaling approximately $4,500,” the investigating officer said.
Police began looking for the two individuals, who were said to be driving a silver Hyundai sedan. The vehicle was spotted in Washington County.
Through surveillance photos, police were able to confirm that Gomez Martinez and Sanz Saavedra were the ones who stole the wallet and purchased the gift cards. Both of them were wearing the same clothing in all surveillance footage.
Gomez Martinez and Sanz Saavedra are scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing before District Judge Kevin J. Flaherty on July 29.
