Mars borough OKs 2nd full-time police sergeant
MARS — Borough council formally approved the addition of its second full-time police officer, Sgt. Brian Novosel, at a meeting Monday.
Novosel began full-time work with the department July 11 but has been with the department for nearly 10 years. The motion recognized the work Novosel already had begun.
“We’d already offered him the job. He’d already accepted and was sworn in,” council member Brad Price said. “This was simply just formal.”
Novosel is now the second full-time officer at the police department and works under Mark Lint, the municipality’s first full-time officer-in-charge.
Other discussions at the meeting focused on possible renovations to the former borough building at 589 Spring Ave.
Municipal offices began official operations in the new location at 301 Arch St. on July 5.
At the meeting Monday, council considered a bid for an addition to the former building, but the process is in its initial stages.
“We have to get three bids,” Price said. Currently, the council has only received one.
No decisions can be made yet, but council is keeping the project under consideration.
“We’re coming up on the budget process, so we’ve got to have some idea what it’s going to cost,” council member William Lambert said.
