‘Christmas in July’ set at Lernerville
BUFFALO TWP — ‘Christmas in July’ takes place Friday night during racing action at Lernerville Speedway.
With the Pro Stock division being given the night off, the Hobby Stocks will be making their first appearance at the Sarver oval. Numerous Hobby Stock drivers have informed the track office they will be competing that night.
A.J. Flick has five feature wins in the Sprint division and a 30-point klead over Sye Lynch. Alex Ferree and John Garvin Jr. are tied for the Late Model points lead and Jeremiah Shingledecker has a 14-point lead on Dave Murdick in the Modifieds.
Gatres open at 5 p.m. Racing begins at 7:30 p.m.
SR grad Reott assisting at Pitt
PITTSBURGH — Butler native and Slippery Rock High School graduate Kelsey Reott has been hired as an assistant swim coach at the University of Pittsburgh.
Reott spent the past three seasons as an assistant swim coach at Bucknell University. That staff earned Patriot League Women’s Coaching Staff of the Year in 2020 and the men’s and women’s swim teams broke 17 school records last season.
A former standout swimmer at Wesminster College, Reott coached there as well before joining the Bucknell staff.
SV grad Cekella gets academic honor
ANNVILLE, — Harmony resident and Seneca Valley graduate Caleb Cekella, a member of Lebanon Valley College’s men’s track and field team, has made the Middle Atlantic Conference’s Winter and Spring Academic Honor Roll.
Athletes must register a term/semester grade point average of 3.20 or higher to achieve this honor.
Johnston family scores racing wins
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Evans City’s Johnston family scored a pair of wins in harness racing action Wednesday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
Owner/trainer Gary Johnston collected his second straight win with Chatty Devon, a 5-year-old mare that captured a $5,800 Conditioned Claiming Pace. Gary’s son, trainer Aaron Johnston, notched a win with Shining Jewels in a $7,800 Conditioned Pace.
