County softball players all-state

Six county players have been named to the Pennsylvania High School Softball Coaches Association’s all-state team.

Seneca Valley third baseman Maddie Gross and Lexie Hames (utility) are first team selections in Class 6A. Freeport catcher Natalie King and shortstop Abby DeJidas are second team Class 4A.

Karns City pitcher Marra Patton and shortstop Ashley Fox made second team in Class 3A.

Johnston, Schoeffel shine in fair racing

PROSPECT — Evans City residents Aaron Johnston and Steve Schoeffel were multiple winners during the opening stop of the Pennsylvania fair harness racing circuit at the Butler fairgrounds this week.

Johnston drove three winners to victory lane while Schoeffel trained three horses that got there. No other driver or trainer won more. In 20 races over two days at the Butler fairgrounds, 13 different drivers won and 17 different trainers found victory lane.

The PA Fair Circuit competes next at the York Fair July 8-9.

Slippery Rock’s Brown wins again

WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown drove Drive to Deliver to victorry in Thursday’s Pop Up Series during harness racing action at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.

Derive to Deliver won his second straight $8,000 race in the Series and was guided by Brown both times.
