Suspicious package results in charges for a Zelienople man

What’s in the box?

The man accused of burglarizing multiple Zelienople businesses last month is now being accused of intimidating witnesses with a “suspicious package,” according to police.

Zelienople police filed additional charges Monday against Michael P. Shipley, 33, of Zelienople, including felony counts of witness intimidation and terroristic threats, as well as misdemeanor counts of harassment, disorderly conduct and trespassing.

Shipley was free after posting $30,000 bond on a different but related case, but he is back in Butler County Prison on a new $25,000 bond, following his arraignment Monday by District Judge Kevin O’Donnell.

Police said they arrived around 10:05 p.m. Sunday at Fisher’s Bar and Grill for a disturbance involving Shipley, who in May was arrested and charged for allegedly vandalizing the bar and a couple other businesses in the area.

“I spoke with the bartender, and she informed me that Shipley was gone but left the suspicious package out back on the garbage can,” police said. “(The bartender) said she was very fearful and terrified that the suspicious package was some sort of an explosive that Shipley made.”
