Fatal gunshot victim identified

State police have identified an Ohio man who was found dead from a gunshot wound early Saturday in Muddy Creek Township.

Police said Frederick Orr, 32, of Columbus, was found around 3:30 a.m. along Kelly Road, which spans a little less than 2 miles between East Portersville and Yellow Creek roads.

“His death is currently being investigated as a homicide,” said state police in a news release. “The investigation is pending autopsy and is currently ongoing.”

On Saturday, Butler County Coroner Bill Young said Orr had suffered a fatal gunshot wound to the head.

“It looked like the guy was just dumped there,” Young said.

After police and EMTs were called to the scene, authorities continued investigating in the area for more than three hours.

According to state police Sunday, no arrests have been made.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call the state police barracks at 724-284-8100.

Though Orr lives outside the state, he was free on a $50,000 bond related to a criminal case in Butler County.

State police filed charges against Orr on May 31, including felony drug sales and misdemeanor counts of drug possession and drug paraphernalia possession.

In the charging documents, police said they stopped him May 30 on Route 422 in Prospect. Police said they later found multiple packages of crack cocaine, prescription pills and associated paraphernalia.

Orr was scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing Wednesday.

This is the second time in two years, that a body was found along a road in Muddy Creek Township.

The body of a 38-year-old New Castle man had been found May 17, 2021, inside his vehicle alongside Portersville Road near Route 422 and Interstate 79.

In that case, Paris E. Carter, 22, of Downingtown, Chester County, was charged with homicide, and witnesses later testified at a preliminary hearing that Carter shot and killed the man while they and other friends were homeward bound and passing through Butler County.

Carter was denied bail and is in Butler County Prison awaiting trial.
