The Musical Theatre Guild’s latest production is set to go off without a hitch. “The Great American Trailer Park Musical” will take the stage June 17.

The plot follows tenants of Armadillo Acres Trailer Park in Florida and how they adapt to the new faces and troubles that roll their way.

The show is directed by Matt Mlynarski and produced by Barb Osche and Megan Flannery Manuel.

Manuel, who also is starring as the character Jeannie, said the show was to be performed in 2020 but was postponed because of COVID.

“This is the longest-running production in MTG history,” she said. “We’ve had cast members stick with it through now.”

Davlin Smith is one such cast member.

“It’s about life in the trailer park and the odd people who live there,” she said of the show. “It’s light; it’s entertaining.”

Smith said her character, Betty, is the mother hen of the park.

“She’s the leader ... nosy; she knows everything and is trying to keep everyone in line if possible, and has fun doing it,” she said.

Manuel said her agoraphobic character faces many challenges in the two-act show.

“(Jeannie) hasn’t left her trailer in 20 years,” she said. “It’s the journey of ‘can Jeannie leave her trailer’ and ‘(if a) new presence in the park will present a challenge.’”

The cast gets along splendidly, Manuel and Smith said.

“This cast brings great energy. There’s new faces; half the cast is new. It’s been nice to bring new energy and ideas,” Manuel said. “It’s a nice time to come to rehearsal.”

“Everyone gets along; everyone’s really in it. It’s comfortable and fun,” Smith said.

Both cast members emphasized the humor and lighthearted nature of the show. Smith said she hopes audiences connect with the show’s tunes.

“I hope they go away humming the songs and knowing they had a great night, toe-tapping and smiling,” she said.

Manuel said she thinks audiences will relate to her character and leave laughing.

“There’s a lesson to learn, considering what we’ve overcome the last couple years. I think people will relate to Jeannie through the struggles and how we choose to triumph over them,” she said. “Be ready to laugh. I hope people (leave) the show with a little less weight on their shoulders.”
