Slippery Rock man accused of strangling

A Boyers man has been arraigned on felony charges that he strangled his ex-girlfriend at her Slippery Rock Township home.

David E. Deal, 41, was arraigned Saturday evening by District Judge William Fullerton and placed in Butler County Prison, where he remains in lieu of $35,000 bond.

Police were dispatched to a reported domestic dispute 10:51 p.m. at the ex-girlfriend’s home. Police said they talked with the woman, who had apparent injuries.

“I observed (her) neck, specifically the right side below the jaw, to be bruised and red,” police said in charging documents.

The woman told police she and Deal had argued after the latter arrived drunk and wanted to enter her home to “kiss and see the baby.” Police did not note in the affidavit to whom the child belongs.

The ex told police an argument ensued.

“(He) grabbed my neck with two hands, and I couldn’t pull them off,” the woman told police. “I felt like I was going to pass out.”

It was not clear from the affidavit whether Deal was arrested at the scene or at a later time and place.

During his arraignment, Fullerton added a condition that he have no contact with the woman should he post the bond.

Deal is scheduled to appear for a preliminary hearing June 21 before District Judge Joseph Nash.
