Butler man offers sex to minors

In front of an adult, a 50-year-old Butler man spoke with three children and offered them sex, according to charges filed Wednesday.

Butler City Police arrested Robert C. Chesnavich early Wednesday.

District Judge Joseph Nash arraigned Chesnavich on charges including three felony counts of criminal solicitation of a minor, three felony counts of corruption of minors, three misdemeanor counts of indecent exposure and three misdemeanor counts of child endangerment.

Nash set Chesnavich’s bond at $250,000, and he remains in Butler County Prison.

Police said two minors made reports Tuesday to officers at the Butler station. The minors told police that Chesnavich had been naked and told them he believed pedophilia was “misunderstood” and OK, before offering to have sex with them.

Police said they later made contact with the third minor and an adult who had witnessed the conversation, and both corroborated the story.

Police said they recorded an interview with Chesnavich, who claimed to be a pedophile.

“During said interview, (Chesnavich) told me that something has been living inside of him for a long time, and it surfaced today,” police said. “(Chesnavich) continued to say that he does not agree with the laws of society and believes he should be able to be in a loving relationship with anyone he wants...”

Chesnavich is scheduled to appear for a June 13 preliminary hearing before District Judge William Fullerton.
