What a whirlwind of heartwarming events last weekend turned out to be!

Butler County residents showed up for each other by sharing knowledge, resources and thanks for their friends and neighbors at the Flower and Food Fest, Evans City Police bench dedication and fundraiser for Stephen Miller. Good spirits and generosity flowed freely, and it was an honor to witness.

This weekend, Main Streets across the county will host Memorial Day parades and honor ceremonies for military members who have served.

Butler’s Rib and Music Fest starts at 4 p.m. Friday, with local BBQ joints, musicians and even a Kid’s Zone promising fun for the whole family. For more information, visit butlerribandmusicfest.com.

Zelienople’s Open Air Thursday’s will have live music, vendors, food and more. Go to Main Street in Zelie and support local businesses and artisans from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday, and various scheduled Thursdays throughout the summer.

Three Rivers Young People’s Orchestra performs its spring concert “Brand New Way” at Heinz Hall, 600 Penn Ave., Pittsburgh, at 5 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free; donations are encouraged.

Hobnob Theatre Company is having auditions for Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” beginning at noon Saturday and Sunday in Preston Park, 415 S. Eberhart Road, Butler Township. To sign up for a time slot, visit http://hobnobtheatre.com/auditions/.

Prospect’s Community Day will begin at 10 a.m. Saturday with vendors and children’s activities galore. A Memorial Day parade will start at 11 a.m. on Main Street, featuring Prospect-Franklin Township Volunteer Fire Department.

Cranberry Township’s annual Memorial Day festivities will begin at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Veterans Memorial in North Boundary Park, 1171 North Boundary Road. A ceremony will include the singing of the National Anthem by Seneca Valley High School students and the release of doves to remember prisoners of war and those missing in action. Refreshments will be available at the ceremony’s conclusion.

Knoch High School’s marching band will perform at the Saxonburg Memorial Day parade, which begins 10:30 a.m. Monday on Main Street.

Chicora’s American Legion Post is having a parade at 10 a.m., beginning at Chicora Elementary School and continuing down Main Street. There will be a service recognizing local veterans at the memorial on Main Street following the parade.

The Butler County Memorial Day parade begins at 10:40 a.m. on Main Street and will feature various veterans’ entities and organizations. Take a lawn chair and American flag, and don’t forget to wear your red, white and blue!
