Knoch middle schoolers win at English festival
Seven Knoch Middle School students returned as winners from an annual English festival held by the Western Pennsylvania Council of Teachers of English (WPCTE). It took place May 11 at LaRoche University in Allegheny County.
The seventh- and eighth-grade teams won the “Insights” competition, in which students were given five minutes to prepare an oral presentation based on a prompt from one of the six novels they read for the competition.
The teams also enjoyed a presentation by Pittsburgh author Marie Benedict, who specializes in writing about little-known but very important women in history.
The two Knoch teams, which were comprised of both seventh- and eighth-graders, were Ava Tirk, Abby Markewicz, Abigail Ceborello and Sarah Edder; and Jack McCool, Camden Christie and Josie Graper.
