Saxonburg approves projects at Roebling Park’s Saxonburg Museum

The failing oaks near the Saxonburg Museum at Roebling Park will be removed and the foundation beneath the museum will be repaired.

Saxonburg Borough Council members voted after the executive session at their Tuesday meeting to approve the removal of four compromised oak trees near the museum and trimming of dead limbs from trees along Rebecca Street for $6,800.

A.L.M. Tree Pros will perform the work for that price regardless of the time it takes to complete the project, which is expected to be two days.

The $6,800 will come from the borough’s capital expense fund.

Council also voted to approve a contract with Etzel Engineer & Build of Saxonburg to develop a design for the deteriorating foundation below the small building in the park, where town founder John Roebling invented wire rope and produced it in the mid 1800s.

The borough will pay Etzel $20,600 initially, and an additional $6,750 for pre-construction services when work on the project draws nearer.
