Clinton Twp. man accused of groping teenage girl

A Clinton Township man is accused of having an allegedly inappropriate encounter with a 13-year-old girl.

State police filed charges Tuesday against Ralph A. Dawson, 43, including felony corruption of minors and misdemeanor indecent assault stemming from his interaction with a girl on a local farm.

According to charging documents, Dawson was looking at farm animals with the girl and, during that time, he groped her.

The girl was interviewed Jan. 10 about her experience.

“(The girl) reported the touching was all done outside her clothing,” police said. “(The girl) reported she was afraid to tell Dawson to stop while he was touching her.”

Police interviewed Dawson twice, once in February and once in March, and investigators said Dawson gave conflicting statements.

Police said Dawson denied any touching of the girl — either accidental or intentional —aside from a hug.

Police said Dawson’s story changed in the second interview, when he admitted to accidentally touching the girl while giving her the hug. He said he had hugged her because she was upset.

“Dawson also related once he got (the girl) under control, he took a deep breath and unintentionally stated, ‘That feels good,’” police said.

Dawson is scheduled to be arraigned May 24 before District Judge Sue Haggerty.
