FORWARD TWP — Four people were transported to the hospital following a Friday night crash at the intersection of Evans City Road and Old Route 68.

Two people were transported by helicopter and another two people were taken by ambulance as a result of the crash, which happened around 10 p.m., according to emergency dispatchers.

The first helicopter was observed taking off just after 10:30 p.m., and the second arrived afterward, landing at 10:36 p.m.

The initial call came in as a “vehicle on fire with entrapment,” according to dispatchers.

According to a Facebook post by the Harmony Fire District, firefighters found a red SUV disabled on the road with one person trapped inside. Firefighters also found a white SUV overturned down a hillside along the road. A piece of guard rail could be seen underneath it.

One group of firefighters helped free the person trapped in the red SUV while other firefighters helped pull people from the ravine with a rope, some of whom were in critical condition.

According to firefighters, four patients were treated from the white SUV and one in the red car. It was not clear which two people were flown to the hospital.

A portion of Evan City Road was closed to traffic following the crash.

Emergency units remained on scene for about 2 hours and 45 minutes. Those dispatched included Evans City, Harmony, Callery and Adams Township fire departments, as well as Quality, Butler and UPMC EMS agencies.

State police investigated the crash at the scene. A report was not available as of 4 p.m. Sunday.
