County teams set for WPIAL playoffs

A number of Butler County high school volleyball, softball, baseball and lacrosse teams will be involved in the upcoming WPIAL playoffs. They include:

Boys Lacrosse

Class 3A — No. 8 Butler will host No. 9 Central Catholic at 7 p.m. Monday.

No. 11 Seneca Valley will travel to No. 6 Bethel Park for a game at 7 p.m. Monday.

Class 2A — No. 1 Mars, defending WPIAL champion and state runner-up, earned a bye into the quarterfinals. The Planets will play the winner of Tuesday's game between Trinity and Shaler at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Mars Athletic Complex.

Girls Lacrosse

Class 3A — No. 9 Seneca Valley will visit No. 8 Bethel Park for a game at 7 p.m. Tuesday.

Class 2A — No. 2 Mars received a bye into the quarterfinals. The Planets will play the winner of Monday's game between Quaker Valley and Franklin Regional at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Mars Athletic Complex.

Baseball

Class 6A: No. 6 Butler and No. 3 Pine-Richland both received a bye and will not be in action until they face each other in a quarterfinal May 23, time and site TBD.

No. 8 Seneca Valley will meet No. 9 Hempfield at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Plum High School.

Class 5A: No. 4 Mars and No. 13 Chartiers Valley will meet at 4 p.m. Tuesday at North Allegheny High School.

Class 4A: No. 3 North Catholic earned a bye into the quarterfinals and will play May 23 at a site and time to be determined against the winner of Wednesday's game between No. 6 Knoch and No. 11 Uniontown. That game is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Norwin High School.

Softball

Class 6A — No. 4 Seneca Valley and No. 5 Bethel Park both received a first-round bye. They will face each other in a quarterfinal at 7 p.m. Wednesday at North Allegheny High School.

Class 4A — No. 8 Freeport will face No. 9 Central Valley at 5 p.m. Wednesday at Mars High School.

No. 12 Knoch and No. 5 Montour will square off at 3 p.m. Wednesday at North Allegheny High School.

Class 3A — No. 9 North Catholic will take on No. 8 Mount Pleasant at 5 p.m. Tuesday at Fox Chapel High School.

Boys Volleyball

Class 3A — Top-seeded Seneca Valley received a bye and will host a quarterfinal Thursday at a time to be determined against the winner of Tuesday’s match between No. 9 Butler and No. 8 Canon-McMillan, to be played at 6 p.m. at Upper St. Clair High School.

Class 2A — No. 2 North Catholic got a bye and will play Thursday at a site and time to be determined against the winner of Tuesday’s match between No. 7 Trinity and No. 10 Derry.

No. 11 Mars will face No. 6 Seton LaSalle at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Gateway High School.
