Spring cleaning means rummage sales are sweeping the county, especially this weekend.

If you are an avid shopper, you’ll want to keep your eyes peeled for roadside treasures. For those needing a hint to start treasure hunt, look no further than this column.

Crossfire Church, 1802 N. Main St. Extension, will have its annual rummage sale over the weekend. With some funds benefiting the First United Methodist Church, the sale runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

Community Alliance Church, 800 Mercer Road, boasts a packed rummage sale in its parking lot from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Proceeds from table rentals benefit the local Fishbone Ministries.

Starting next Wednesday, the Mr. Bookman Book Fest will over take the Butler Farm Show Exhibit Hall, 625 Evans City Road, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 18, 19 and 20 and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 21. Aside from 150,000 books, the sale offers access to DVDs, CDs, vinyl records and audio books.

In addition to unique shopping opportunities, Butler County is teeming with activity.

The curtain will rise at Butler Little Theatre with Neil Simon’s play “Broadway Bound” at 8 p.m. Friday. The play is a hilarious semi-autobiographical account of Simon’s life through the character Eugene Jerome, who is pursuing his dreams of writing.

Also happening Friday night is Night Disc Golf at Alameda Park near the Purple Park. Registration costs $10 and requires your own discs, and make sure they light up. The event is open to all skill levels. Check-in begins at 8:45 p.m. and the tournament begins around 9 p.m.

Kids Day America, which is dedicated to health, safety and environmental awareness of children, is being celebrated Saturday at the Butler Farm Show Grounds, 625 Evans City Road. The fun begins at 11 a.m. and includes Cow Patty Bingo, a giant slide, an obstacle challenge, and various organization booths.

The Portersville Steam Show Spring Gas Up is back with oil, farming, engine and air industries machines from as early as the 1920s. The event will feature a flea market, food, train rides, live music and a vintage village complete with a blacksmith and print and 1880s machine shops. The show runs from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at Portersville Steam Show Grounds, 1512 Perry Highway, Portersville. The Transfer Tractor Pull is from 2 to 3 p.m. Saturday and the Garden Tractor Pull begins at 11 a.m. Sunday. Admission is $5.
