SRU baseball splits with Mercyhurst

ERIE — Connor Hamilton belted two home runs Friday — tying the program’s single-season record of 16 — as Slippery Rock University’s baseball team split a doubleheader at Mercyhurst.

The Rock (31-13, 16-10) won the first game, 12-10, before dropping the nightcap by a 12-3 count. The 31 wins represents SRU’s second-highest single-season win total in the last 15 years.

SRU will clinch a PSAC Tournament berth with at least one win in its final two games Saturday against Mercyhurst at Critchfield Park. The first pitch is set for 1 p.m. Seniors Hamilton, Andy McClymonds,. Christian Seelhorst, JT Wolke, Anthony Cinicola, Travis Holman and Abraham Mow, along with student msnager Zachary Mancz, will be honored before the twinbill.

Brad Lowe set The Rock record of 16 homers in a season in 1998. Hamilton had four hits, six RBI and scored three runs on the day.

Joel Spishock had four hits Friday, including two homers and three RBI. He is hitting .423 on the season.

Devin Dunn improved to 9-1 on the year with a win in the first game. Luke Trueman, who homered in the first game, took the loss in the nightcap.
