SRU grad C. Vivian Stringer retires after legendary basketball coaching career
Slippery Rock University graduate and legendary women’s basketball coach C. Vivian Stringer has announced her retirement at Rutgers University.
Stringer, 74, will officially end her 50-year collegiate coaching career Sept.1. Her 50 years of coaching includes stints at Cheyney State, Iowa and Rutgers. Her 1,055 career victories rank fourth all-time among Division I women’s basketball coaches.
A member of the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Stringer guided her teams to 28 NCAA tournament appearances and four Final Fours.
