Rock baseball splits with Pitt-Johnstown
JOHNSTOWN — Slippery Rock High School graduate Ricky Mineo lost his second decision of the season in a pitcher’s duel Saturday, but the 18th-ranked Slippery Rock University baseball team split a doubleheader at Pitt-Johnstown.
Mineo (5-2) allowed four hits and struck out eight in six innings of the first game, but SRU (30--11, 15-9) took a 3-2 defeat. The Rock won the nightcap, 7-5.
The Rock reached 30 wins in a season for the first time since 2014. The team has a minimum of five games remaining.
Koby Bubash had two singles and an RBI for The Rock in the first game. Luke Trueman douled and singled while Abraham Mow contributed two singles.
Andy McClymonds threw four innings of scoreless relief to get the win in the second game. The game was tied at 5 entering the top of the seventh when Joel Spishock led off the frame with a triple. He scored on a Trueman double, the latter eventually crossing the plate on a wild pitch.
Spishock homered in the game as well and had three RBI. Alex Robenolt and Eddie Morris had three hits each, Bubash and Jon Kozarian two hits each.
The Rock plays a non-conference game at Walsh at 3 p.m. Monday.
