North tennis duo wins WPIAL
Entering the tournament as the seventh seed, North Catholic’s Brody Golla and Alex Garvey won the WPIAL Class 2A tennis doubles championship Wednesday in Wexford.
The Trojan duo defeated top-seeded Tim Lakotos and Alex Duing of South Park 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the championship match. Golla and Garvey defeated Drew Dimidjian and Tony Sparta of Thomas Jefferson 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals. They downed Arturo Martin and Daniel Ray of Indiana, 10-4, in the quarterfinals.
Golla and Garvey opened the tournament with a 10-0 victory over Mark Gallagher and Ryan Borkowski of Mount Pleasant.
Fifth-seeded Luke Raymundo and Tim Jayamohan of Mars opened the tourney with a 10-5 win over Dylan Gentile and Nate Clarke of Valley before dropping a 10-8 decision to fourth-seeded Andrew Cavett and Grady Johnson of Beaver in the quarterfinals.

Karns City swept a meet with Keystone, the boys claiming a 98-51 win and the girls downing the Panthers, 113-37.

Sydney Selker pitched all seven innings, striking out 12 and allowing just four hits as visiting Freeport topped Greensburg Salem, 4-2.
Abby DeJidas had three hits, including a double, for the Yellowjackets (7-3, 5-2).
Autumn Powell added a double and Natalie King singled twice in the win.
Carissa Caldwell and Heather Bolen each had a double for the Golden Lions.
Burrell 2, Knoch 0 — Carissa Tekely’s single was the lone hit managed by the Knights, whose bats were stymied by Burrell pitcher Katie Armstrong and her 13 strikeouts.
Brynnae Coe fanned nine and walked just one in the circle for Knoch (4-7, 2-4). She surrendered just four hits.
