New store showcases area history
CRANBERRY TWP — Steel City Garage will welcome shoppers at its two-day grand opening celebration in The Streets of Cranberry on this weekend.
Customers exploring the new Steel City Garage — which plans to sell apparel and accessories honoring Pittsburgh’s history and legacy — will have the chance to partake in food trucks, live performances and other family friendly activities from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
Additionally, the garage will give away free T-shirts to the first 50 patrons to walk through its doors and offer specials.
The Streets of Cranberry location, located across from Alera Salon and Spa, will be the company’s second location after its downtown Pittsburgh site.
“While our Steel City location downtown is known for vintage championship banners and paying homage to our legendary sports teams, Steel City Garage pays homage to the American worker — the laborers and entrepreneurs who built this country from the ground up,” Steel City CEO Brandan Grbach said in a news release. “Steel City represents more than just a location on a map, it’s the American dream to build something or find something and make it better.”
Grbach’s grandfather, who operated a two-bay auto shop, is the inspiration for Steel City Garage’s interior. The company said guests will notice vintage fixtures and displays near the store’s wares.
Those wares will include vintage T-shirts, logo sweatshirts, windbreakers and joggers, along with greeting cards, socks and hats, plus other various accessories.
Carly Grbach, the company’s chief financial officer, said the store will capture the “unique essence” of Western Pennsylvania’s history.
“This city was founded by visionary builders and industry workers, and that legacy still lives on in Pittsburgh’s culture today,” Carly Grbach said.
