Brady Twp. appoints supervisor, auditor

BRADY TWP — Brady Township’s supervisors voted to appoint Darlene Covert as supervisor and Patty DeCaria as auditor at the meeting Wednesday night.

Covert was one of three applicants for the supervisor position left vacant after Kenneth Hertzog’s resignation. DeCaria was the only applicant for the auditor position left vacant by Joe Sincar.

On April 4, Supervisors Robert McConnell and Ron Staiger held a special meeting to accept the resignations of Hertzog, secretary/treasurer Kristina McCullough, assistant secretary Ann Stockart and Sincar. The remaining supervisors voted to advertise for the open positions with letters of interest due Monday and interviews held Tuesday and Wednesday.

The positions of emergency management coordinator and planning commission member will also need filled, as they were formally held by Hertzog.

Covert ran for supervisor in last year’s election, losing by two votes to McConnell.

“It wouldn’t be fair to not give her a chance,” McConnell said of Covert.

“I’m going to try to take care of the money here, take care of the roads and be transparent with the people,” Covert said when appointed.

The supervisors voted to advertise again for a secretary/treasurer position. The interim position is held by secretary of Concord Township, Michelle Thompson. The board decided not to fill the assistant secretary position.

In an update on the new building construction at 131 West Liberty Road, McConnell said mechanical plans from an engineer will need to be drawn up before moving forward.

When asked if a list of total expenses on the new building could be drawn up, McConnell said the supervisors would work on it and have more information at next month’s meeting.

Residents asked solicitor Ron Coyer if they could get a referendum on the November ballot regarding the new building, to which Coyer responded that a referendum would require the involvement of the county elections bureau and a certain number of signatures on a petition.

The next Brady Township supervisors meeting will be held at 7 p.m. May 18.
