Steve “Beaver” Kosar, 94, of Butler, passed away, Sunday morning, April 3, 2022, in the comfort of his home.

Born Jan. 11, 1928, in Lyndora, he was a son of the late Joseph Kosar and Fannie (Malec) Kosar.

Beaver had worked at the Pullman Standard Car Co. until the plant closed, and for the Butler Area School District before retiring.

He was a member of Faith Fellowship Alliance Church and the American Legion Michael Kosar post 778 in Lyndora.

He enjoyed working jigsaw puzzles, crossword puzzles, loved watching all sports, was an avid golfer and bowler, and had appeared on the “Bowling for Dollars” TV show.

A veteran of World War II, he had served in the U.S. Navy.

Surviving are his children, Stephen (Jo Ann) Kosar of Graham, Wash., Diane (Tom) Kummer of Gaithersburg, Md., and Jennifer (Mark) Nicklas of Manassas, Va.; seven grandchildren, Eric, Amy, Katie, April, Rachael, Melinda and Jeremy; four great-granddaughters; six great-grandsons; a brother-in-law, Paul (Shirley) Homa of East Butler; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Elsie J. (Homa) Kosar, whom he married May 12, 1951, and who passed away on March 26, 2019; one granddaughter, Kira; and his siblings, Stanley, Michael, John, Nick, Mary, Ann, Nelle, Rose, Joseph Jr., Paul and infant twin brothers.

KOSAR — Family and friends of Steve “Beaver” Kosar, who died Sunday, April 3, 2022, are invited to attend a graveside service at 1 p.m. Friday at Rose Hill Cemetery. The Rev. Richard Jenks will officiate.

Military honors will follow and will be conducted by the VFW/American Legion Honor Guard.
