Violet Yuhas
In loving memory of Violet Yuhas whose birthday is March 28.
Mum was one of the Island Girls in Butler, members of The Greatest Generation, who were marked not only by sacrifice, but a desire to share with others what little they felt fortunate to have themselves. The Great Depression had a stranglehold on Butler and the rest of the country, but she and her family, as one example, always found food from their table to share with the hungry hobos who jumped off the trains at Negley Avenue and knocked on their back door. This small token of generosity set the foundation for her life as she grew up, had a family of her own and continued the model of her parents. Mum never expected anything because, for much of her life, there was nothing there to expect. But she led by example, sharing important things with us, her children, like courage, honesty, humility and the rock-solid belief that God was always there to help. As each year passes, we miss her and her example more and more.
