SRU softball wins at home
SLIPPERY ROCK — The Slippery Rock University softball team secured its first home-opening doubleheader sweep since 2011 Thursday, winning 3-1 and 4-3 over Lock Haven.
SRU improved to 8-10 overall while Lock Haven slipped to 8-7.
Mackenzie Freenman drilled her sixth home run of the year for The Rock. She collected three RBI and two runs scored during the twinbill. Alexsa Hurd won the second game with a walk-off run-scoring single.
Kelsi Anderson was the winning pitcher in Game 1. Hurd allowed two runs over 6.1 innings in Game 2 before giving way to eventual winning pitcher Chloe Sharman.
The Rock hosts Mercyhurst in a 2:30 p.m. twinbill Tuesday.
