Butler grad Bocci Freshman of Year
CLARION — Butler graduate and Clarion University freshman swimmer David Bocci has been named Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Men’s Swimming Freshman of the Year.
Bocci broke the program record in the 500-meter freestyle this season. He led the Golden Eagles with 61 points scored in the PSAC Swimming and Diving Championships, taking second place in the 200 individual medley and 200 backstroke. He swam a leg of Clarion’s second-place 400 medley relay as well.
Bocci won the PSAC title in the 200 butterfly.
Overall deer harvest down from 2020-21
The Pennsylvania Game Commission has reported deer harvest results for the 2021-22 season.
Hunters harvested an estimated 376,810 white-tailed deer. The overall take is down nearly 13% from 2020-21, when hunters recorded the largest deer harvest in 16 years. Twenty-two percent of hunters took an antlered deer.
SR’s Sabo, Gordon gain region honors
SLIPPERY ROCK — Slippery Rock High School boys basketball players John Sabo and Dylan Gordon have been named to the All-Region 4, District 10 team.
Sabo, a junior guard, made first team. He averaged 12.7 points per game. Gordon, also a junior guard, averaged 12.2 points per game and made second team.
Behrend honoring Butler grad Schnur
ERIE — The Penn State Behrend men’s volleyball team is honoring senior Cody Schnur prior to its home matches against Thiel and Saint Vincent Saturday.
Schnur and graduate student JP Goodsel have been part of 49 overall wins and 26 conference victories in the program. Schnur is second on the program’s list with a career attack percentage of .367, fifth with 190 blocks, eighth in kills per set (2.04) and ninth with 507 kills.
The Lions are 16-6 overall this season and lead the AMCC with a 10-1 conference mark.
Brown, Schoeffel combine for victory
WASHINGTON, Pa. — Slippery Rock resident Brady Brown drove Guido Di to victory in a $9,500 Conditioned Trot during harness racing action Thursday at Hollywood Casino at The Meadows.
The 3-year-old gelding is trained by Steve Schoeffel of Evans City. The horse’s lifetime earnings soared over $100,000.
