Woman accused of stealing from Cranberry Twp. employer

A Springdale woman has been accused of stealing more than $10,000 from her Cranberry Township employer.

Cranberry Township Police filed charges last week against Breana N. Goughler, 25, including felony counts of theft and possessing stolen property, for allegedly stealing money from nightly deposits for the European Wax Center.

Following arraignment Wednesday by District Judge Kevin Flaherty, Goughler was released on her own recognizance.

According to charging documents, the thefts were reported to police on Dec. 28. Police said an audit of the company’s financial records showed $10,588 missing from its deposits between Sept. 2 and Dec. 16.

Police said the company became suspicious of Goughler after she informed them of a deposit she claimed was stolen from her car on Dec. 22.

“Goughler notified (the company’s director of operations) the bank deposit had been stolen out of her vehicle the night prior,” said the investigating officer in the affidavit. “Goughler was asked why she took the businesses cash deposits home knowing and understanding it’s against company policy.”

Police said a report was filed with the Coraopolis Police Department, and in it Goughler claimed the bag held about $2,000. She also reported her wallet, cash, driver’s license, credit cards and Citizens Bank debit card had been stolen.

“Goughler’s vheicle had no signs of forced entry, and there were no other reports of similar incidents in the area or evidence that any other vehicle had been disturbed,” police said.

Police received a warrant for Goughler’s bank records, which they said showed she had been making deposits at ATMs between Dec. 21 and Jan. 20, and she was using her allegedly stolen debit card to do so. According to police, those deposits amounted to about $1,829.

Police talked with Goughler on Feb. 22. According to police, she admitted to taking the money from the deposits and planned to pay it back. Police said she also admitted to filing a false report with Coraopolis police about her car being broken into.

“Goughler stated the reason she stole the money from European Wax Center was to pay bills and take care of her children,” police said.

Goughler is expected to appear April 22 for a preliminary hearing before Flaherty.
