Robert Vaughn

Dr. Robert L. Vaughn, 90, of Zelienople, passed away Saturday morning, March 12, 2022, at his residence with his wife and family by his side.

Born July 27, 1931, in Terre Haute, Ind., he was the son of the late Guy E. and Marie Auler Vaughn.

Robert was a member of the Zelienople-Harmony United Methodist Church.

He was a dentist, having opened his office in Mercer from 1957 to 1960. He then opened an office in Ellwood City in 1960. He retired in 2002 after 40 years in private practice, and from teaching at Pitt Dental School.

Robert served in the medical corps of the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.

He especially enjoyed woodworking.

Robert is survived by his wife, Shirley M. Freshcorn Vaughn, whom he married June 6, 1990; one daughter, Vicky (Ken) Sroka; three sons, Robert (Cindy) Vaughn, Karl Vaughn and James (Tracy) Vaughn; two stepdaughters, Colleen (Gerard) Werner and Sheryl (Joel) Nupp; four stepsons, Douglas (Jeanne) Gilson, Scott (Nancy) Gilson, Robert (Janet) Gilson and Dwayne (Tina) Gilson; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; 19 stepgrandchildren; and 25 stepgreat-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one sister and one brother.

VAUGHN — A private service for Dr. Robert L. Vaughn, who died Saturday, March 12, 2022, was held Wednesday and entombment was in the Zelienople Mausoleum.

Arrangements were handled by A. CARL KINSEY-RONALD N. VOLZ FUNERAL HOME, Zelienople.

The family has suggested memorial donations be made to the VNA Hospice or a recognized Wire Hair Terrier Rescue.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date.
