Ken Stroup Sr.

Stroup

Ken Stroup Sr., 93, of Chicora passed away peacefully at his home Saturday, March 12, 2022, with his loving family by his side.

Ken was born on Jan. 17, 1929, to the late Dean and Ruth (Armstrong) Stroup. He graduated from Concord High School in 1948. He retired from ARMCO in 1992, after 39 years. In his earlier years, he worked the oil wells that he owned with his Dad and brother. He was a member of Concord Presbyterian Church.

On Nov. 5, 1949, he married Marie Cumberland. Together they raised eight children, and they recently celebrated 72 years of marriage.

Ken was a devoted Pirates fan for many years and never gave up on them. He also liked watching the Steelers and watching NASCAR, cheering on Dale Jarrett. He loved to hunt and fish, and ride around on his Ranger. He was an avid coon hunter.

In his younger years he built his own dune buggy and loved to go riding with the guys. He liked to ride his Yamaha motorcycle, especially through the snow drifts. He enjoyed working on cars and anything else he could find to work on. According to him, there was nothing that couldn’t be fixed, even if it was with duct tape.

He enjoyed going to his family camp in Tidioute with his family and friends and sitting by the campfire telling jokes, singing songs and having a cold one. “Who has more fun than poor people?” was his camp motto. He also loved the hunting trips to camp with his son and all of the guys. He looked forward to the every-Sunday get-togethers with his kids and grandchildren, and really enjoyed sitting at the gazebo with the “man club.”

He had a witty sense of humor and loved to tease his gullible girls, who, as he also said, were so easily amused by anything. He was a hard-working, loving, dedicated father, grandfather, brother and friend who will be so missed by everyone.

Ken is survived by his loving and faithful wife of 72 years, Marie. He was the loving and dedicated father of Ken (Mindy) Stroup Jr., Pam (Cal) Fry, Kim (Bob) Flick, Sherry Anderson, Theresa (Bill) Bovard and Michelle (Pat) Parsons. His pride and joy were his 21 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. He also is survived by his brothers, Terry (Bev) Stroup, Dave (Pat) Stroup and Gary (Becky) Stroup; and his sister, Shirley (Dick) Wilson.

Ken was preceded in death by his son, Randy Stroup; his daughter, Marla Stroup; daughter-in-law, Debbie Stroup; son-in-law Jim Anderson; brothers and sisters, Archie, Jim, Inez and Patty; and two great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Paige.

STROUP — Family and friends of Ken Stroup Sr., who died Saturday, March 12, 2022, will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the WILLIAM F. YOUNG FUNERAL HOME, 132 Main St., West Sunbury. Visitation also will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at church.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Concord Presbyterian Church, 625 Hooker Road, West Sunbury, with the Rev. Bob Edmundson, officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery.
